    28 08 2008

    As posted on IGN.com

An interesting job listing went up on Tsumea, the well-known site for Australian and New Zealand game developers, yesterday, advertising a number of positions for a new game based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The game is to be developed by Brisbane-based THQ Studio Australia and the listing simply states that the company is “seeking videogame development talent across all disciplines to work on an action game for Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 based on the popular Warhammer 40,000 universe from Games Workshop.”

“We want the most talented, most enthusiastic and motivated developers to join us,” it goes on to say, “and help push Brisbane and THQ Studio Australia to the forefront of Australian development.” The company is looking for a Lead Artist, Lead Animator, Environment Artist, Animator, Senior Designer, Audio Designer, Engine programmer, Game Programmer and QA Lead.

While the listing itself gives no details as to the type of game it may be, THQ Studio Australia’s website states that: “We are currently looking for people to work on a next-gen brutal, intimate melee combat game using a world-class brand”.

World Of Zellians Announced for PS3/X360/PC/WII

    19 08 2008

Portugal’s leading video games investor and developer, GAMEINVEST, is creating a beautiful and expansive world for multiple platforms this fall with World of Zellians. Currently in development for Nintendo Wii™, Xbox 360, PlayStation® 3, and PC platforms, World of Zellians is a strategic life simulation game where players must create, manage and grow a prosperous new civilization while caring for the wellbeing of the community. GAMEINVEST is currently looking for qualified distribution and publishing partners for World of Zellians on the various platforms.

“The concept of creating a balanced society in World of Zellians is truly engaging and challenging, and we are designing this experience to be fun and accessible for all audiences – from casual to core gamers,” said GAMEINVEST founder and CEO Paulo Gomes. “As the ruler of this society, players will be responsible for developing the community as well as providing a positive influence in the world – creating a very challenging and interactive gaming experience.”

In World of Zellians, players will develop and manage a civilization of villagers called Zellians. As the ruler over the Zellian planet, players must manage a “Maslow’s Pyramid” hierarchy of Zellian needs, and help evolve the primitive tribe of Zellians into a self-sustaining and prosperous urban society. Players will develop the society by building streets, farms, ranches, watermills, and more. Also, players can assign in-game “Disciples” for the recurring tasks like planting corn, watering fruit trees, and managing the marketplace for Zellians to prosper.

Players will be charged with protecting the Zellian society from an evil god called Zorm. The Zellians live in darkness and fear of Zorm, and players must provide a positive force that brings hope and happiness to the Zellian world. There are many “areas of influence” in the Zellian world that are controlled by Zorm, and players must take control of all these areas and increase their influence over the Zellians in order to succeed in the game. Engage in challenging levels of gameplay to create a balanced and thriving society of Zellians.

Utilizing a Wii remote, a controller or mouse to simply point-and-click on-screen, players will create, destroy or move objects, control weather and time, and more. With accessible gameplay mechanics and increasing levels of tasks and villagers to manage, players of all ages and skill levels will be drawn into the World of Zellians.

Codemasters Announces MMO Racing Game: Fuel

    19 08 2008

Not really sure if I’d consider it an MMO just yet, but it still sounds cool.  FUEL is set in an “alternate present” where the world’s been wrecked by the effects of climate change, FUEL claims a 5,000 square-mile playing area with “no boundaries” and 16-player racing.
Players race in “grungy home-tuned vehicles” across the “tsunami-wrecked pacific coast through the Nevada wastelands, including the Grand Canyon, up treacherous snow-capped mountains, thick forests, arid deserts, abandoned lakeside resorts and much more”.

Along the way racers will encounter tornados, sandstorms, thunderstorms, lightning strikes and blizzards thanks to a dynamic weather system, and experience a full day-and-night cycle.

You probably know Codemasters from their great games such as: GRID, DIRT, and my favorite Overlord!

    Alan Wake Still Coming

    18 08 2008

On the Alan Wake forums, Remedy CFO Mika Reini put out a post confirming that they are still working on Alan Wake

    Dear people,

We feel we owe you all a small heads up, and our apologies for lack of updates. This is just part of our psychological thriller, is it all real or imagined…

Seriously, yes, we’re still here and working hard on getting Alan Wake for you to enjoy. Sure, we’ve been in development for a long time and if everything had gone perfectly smoothly there probably would be a game out for you guys to play already. But designing a completely new game can be hard, and sometimes you need to take a detour to find the best route forward.

We want to entertain you guys in the best possible way and our team is putting in every effort possible in order for that to happen. That is the way Remedy wants to do things. I’m sure you will enjoy Alan Wake when we’re done.

    Just follow the light…

IGN reports that there a rumors of Alan Wake appearing at the Tokyo Game Show in October, but there has been on confirmation or anyone deny it.
